SOLUTION THREE

SOLUTION ONE

Embrace your past so you may learn from it

Anxiety exists as one of the major epidemics of our time and is a bane to our productivity and happiness, but it is one that everyone has the ability to overcome. Unresolved conflicts, unmet expectations, and shortcomings from your past that are occupying your mind are a large part of why anxiety now prevents you from acting on your full potential. If you are anxious, you are living in the future; unsure of either your ability to perform or your inability to control how others will act towards you. These expectations are based on events in the past where your actions resulted in an unwanted result and may have hurt you in some way. If you still have anxiety, you need to reflect on what happened.

Ask why your actions didn’t give you the results you expected. What reason, that you had control over, prevented you from succeeding?

When you can answer these questions and think deeply about them, you will begin to make connections between your actions that can explain why you were hurt in the past, and begin to acquire wisdom and learn the lessons your mind is trying to teach you.

SOLUTION TWO

Don’t make the same mistakes

The definition of insanity is doing the same things and expecting different results. Once you have located sources of anxiety in your past, if you still find yourself anxious in your day today, it is because your body is trying to tell you something. You are anxious because the threats that you have already experienced have not been properly processed and still act as potential threats today.

Take steps to identify and elaborate on what you can do differently this time, how you can better word that email, or communicate in a calmer way to a coworker.

Now that you have learned what you did wrong, work to find out what you can try next time to get a better result. With new potential solutions identified, you are setting yourself a guideline on how to handle these past disturbances going forward.

SOLUTION THREE

Know you can’t predict the future

Nobody can predict the future and anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to sell you something. The only way you can act to avoid future failure is to learn from your past mistakes. Anxiety is a step in the process of acquiring wisdom, and in the 24/7 world of information we live in it is incredibly difficult to find the time to step back and digest the lessons being given to you and move on to the next stages. Anxiety about the past is processed by reflection, anxiety about the present is negated by applying the lessons learned from your reflection, and the only antidote to anxiety about the future is beginning to trust yourself and your ability to apply what you have learned from the past’s mistakes. Now that you have a road plan, the only thing you can do for your future self is to stick to it and begin to trust yourself and your ability to process and act in an intelligent, humble way. The future can’t be controlled, but by keeping yourself adherent to these guidelines your subconscious mind will begin to trust your capabilities to maneuver through conflicts and roadblocks, leading you to ultimately embrace a calmer, more mature state of being; devoid of anxiety, and driven by confidence.
