SOLUTION ONE

Use YouTube to get in the zone and guide you through mantras.

For those people that have been practicing meditation for a long time, they can get in the zone in a New York subway station just by closing their eyes. For the rest of us, we may need a little help. This is when YouTube comes in great to stream in calming music to help block out distractions and even supplies mantras to help with any specific area you want to meditate on. Take for instance a gratitude meditation, mediation to let go of anxiety or pain. A simple beginner’s meditation can also be a great place to top your toe in and get started. All of the videos are about ten minutes and if you find one you like you can subscribe to their channel and listen to different meditations. One thing that we can be particular about is the voice. If the person speaking does not have a calm soothing voice it is hard to get into a meditative state.

SOLUTION TWO

Find the best position for you to maximize your time meditating.

I swear on all things epic I had a friend who could not sit criss cross applesauce. If I told them you had to assume the meditating position, legs crossed with the backs of your hands on your knees, they would break out into a cold sweat. What is most important for meditating is clearing your mind. If you are in pain you can not get into the right mindset so when you are starting our especially you need to just find a comfortable position. It can be on the couch with your legs on the coffee table or swivel your chair around at work and face the window. As go along and can get into a meditative state more easily you can then consider getting a special chair or meditation cushion to practice on. Don’t get us wrong. There are many reasons there are certain ways to sit when you meditate, however, just like you don’t start running by doing a marathon don’t expect meditation in it’s best practice is going to come overnight. Be easy on yourself and better yet, proud of yourself for even starting!

SOLUTION THREE

Focus on your breathing and the rest will fall into place.

Breathing. It is so simple. You are doing as you read this sentence. Breathing during meditation is different. You need to be intentional and focused with your meditative breathing. There are many ways to learn great breathing techniques but let’s start with our favorite. Close your eyes and picture a horizontal zigzag line. Follow the line in your mind and as you go up the line breath in through your nose. As you go down the line in your mind breath our through your mouth. It is simple and great for beginners. Some other methods to use are the 4-5-6 method. Breath in for 4 seconds, hold for 5 seconds and exhale for 6 seconds. (Sometimes called 4-7-8 or 5-5-5, you get the point). Be mindful and remember, inhale, exhale, repeat.
